Practice
Guidelines
Welcome to North Shore Yoga! The following is
a list of guidelines to ensure that each student has an enjoyable
experience.
- Come 5-15 minutes early so
you can check in before class, take care of payment arrangements,
and have some time to settle in.
- If you are running late,
please be sure to enter class after any meditation or breathing
exercises, as not to disturb the others.
- Wear comfortable clothing such
as yoga pants, t-shirts, shorts, or tank tops. Yoga practice
is done in bare feet.
- Please leave your shoes, belongings,
and CELL PHONES in the cubbies
outside the studio. Bring only personal valuables in the
studio. Turn CELL PHONES OFF.
- Feel free to bring water and a towel. However,
it is recommended to limit drinking water during practice.
Rather, drink plenty of water prior to, and after class.
Water & towels are for sale at the front desk.
- Personal hygiene is
an integral part of practicing yoga. Please ensure that
you and your gear are clean and refrain from wearing perfume
or cologne.
- Please bring your own mat for
personal hygiene/energetic reasons. If you need a mat they
are available to rent for $1.
- It is recommended to practice yoga
on an empty stomach. Refrain
from eating 2-3 hours prior to your practice.
- Please avoid any unnecessary talking
during class and keep voices
low when in the lobby.
- Inform your teacher prior to class of
any injuries, pregnancy, or medical conditions.
- Please respect the student-teacher
relationship and follow requests
from your teacher. This relationship, based on the genuineness
of the teacher and the respect and commitment of the student,
is the best way for yoga and advanced knowledge to be conveyed.
- We are a hands-on studio,
if you would prefer not to be touched, kindly let your
teacher know.
- The studio is kept warm so
that muscles are pliable, and injuries are kept to a minimum.
Sweating is a part of the practice and will help to purify
and de-toxify the system.
- Please stay on your own mat and
refrain from assisting other practitioners.
- Taking rest or SAVASANA at
the end of yoga practice is an integral part of the practice
for the health of the mind and body. Please do not leave
class without doing so. If you must leave class early,
be sure to stop your practice early and leave at least
5 minutes for a proper rest and relaxation.
- DO NOT LEAVE during rest or savasana,
out of respect for the other practitioners.
- In Mysore classes, please respect
and follow the traditional Ashtanga Method as
taught by Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois. Do not add, skip or deviate
from the sequence of asanas unless acknowledged or requested
by your teacher. If you do not know the sequence, inform
your teacher so that you can obtain the appropriate guidance.
Please do not take any new asanas unless agreed upon with
your teacher.
- Please honor the sacredness of the
space by picking up after yourself,
and returning borrowed props to our closet in an organized
fashion.
